Betsey Norton
Environmental Horticulturist
Betsey is passionate about all things outdoors. Early outdoor interests won her heart and she has made a career of excellence in horticulture. Beginning in a local garden center with, her interests and strengths in horticulture came naturally; Betsey earned her degree in Environmental Horticulture.
At graduation, she was fortunate to earn an entry level assistant manager position at a perennial growing and gardens operation in Milton, Georgia. From facilities construction through designing and installing the onsite botanical gardens, managing staff and growing relationships with amazing clients, it was an undeniable labor of love. Her dedication and drive helped to grow the nursery and design services and earned the position of COO. During the years at Perennial Grace Nursery, Betsey began as a contributing writer for Georgia Gardening magazine. For over a decade, she has delighted readers nationwide with garden inspiration and education.
Inspired for growth, she transitioned in the field to a landscape design, build and maintenance firm in Atlanta. Bringing strong horticultural skills to the team, Betsey quickly became proficient in both landscape maintenance and installation. Working under a team of widely skilled professional landscape architects, she was able to quickly grow her horticultural expertise into the full realm of soft and hard scape design. At the same time, Betsey brought her strengths of seasonal color and perennial garden design and organic plantings into the mix. Over the next many years, she grew her network of skilled tradesmen and had opportunities to provide service to many premier properties throughout metro-Atlanta.
Betsey believed that there was a need for a leader to emerge specializing in sustainable landscape management and construction. In 2009, she re-enrolled in Chattahoochee Technical College and obtained certification in Sustainable Landscaping. In this course she gained additional awareness of drainage and erosion, soil management and techniques such as green roof design and construction and rainwater capture techniques. In 2011 until merging with White Oak Landscape in October 2017, Betsey owned and operated Going Green Horticultural, LLC and developed a well-respected landscaping brand with environmental consciousness at the core. She enjoyed opportunities to work with local schools on garden projects where she educated elementary school students on the importance of pollination gardens, vegetable garden planting and tending and, in general, being good stewards of the environment
Betsey received the 2015 Jake Tinga Young Professional of the Year Award and sits on the Board of the Georgia Green Industry Association as the current landscape division President and recently sat on the Green Industry Expert Panel for Advancing Georgia’s Leaders in Agriculture and Forestry.
Also in 2015, Betsey was honored by The Atlantan Magazine with the distinction of being a Woman of Power and Influence. Betsey is excited to bring her energy and vision to the White Oak Landscape team as Sales Manager and Designer. She looks forward to continuing to serve her clients with full-service capacity and working to make outdoor living and landscapes a reality for families and businesses. In her free time, Betsey enjoys playing with her daughters, entertaining friends and family and hiking in the mountains or kayaking a river.
